As the oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye by almost 200 years, we have been an integral part of island life and history since 1830.
In 1825, the MacAskill brothers arrived on Skye from the nearby smaller Scottish island of Eigg.
After several false starts, in 1830 they opened Talisker distillery at Carbost, where it remained the only distillery on the island for nearly two centuries.
Through upheaval, changes of ownership, and even a fire, Talisker has always kept Skye at the heart of the brand—and the whisky.
As a whisky made by the sea, Talisker shares a deep love for the beauty and fragility of the oceans and is proudly committed to protecting the ocean ecosystem for the next generation of wild spirits.
Produced beside the shore of Lock Harport in the jagged shadow of the peaks of The Cuillin, Talisker is the only single malt scotch whisky made on the Isle of Skye.
Talisker Glacial Edge 45 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was boldly finessed and finished in the unforgiving wilds of the Arctic.
After nearly half a century of ageing at the Talisker distillery on the windswept Isle of Skye, the 12 heavily charred American Oak casks journeyed across the Atlantic to their last blasting place.
Ice fractured and snow-cracked for 96 hours on beautiful glaciers, these wooden casks increased in surface area to allow more of the ex-Bourbon barrel’s sweet spiciness into the whisky – seen in action in its glowing pale amber appearance and exceptional beading.
This untamed single malt is finished in sub-zero temperatures for a rich, dry and mellow nose with a light peppery prickle.
Undeniable maritime top notes offer a seaweed and iodine aroma with a glacial mineral touch of slaked lime and salt crystals.
Whilst underneath the surface, complex dried fruit sweetness and creamy vanilla bring out its true depth, enhanced by its smoky sandalwood background.
On the palate experience first a sweet taste of toffee with a mouth-filling texture and oil-smooth feel, then salt and pepper dances on the taste buds with a striking chilli bite.
A drop of water ignites these flavours even further.
A nostalgic nod to salted caramels but with an ice-tinged edge.
As this 45-year-old Talisker comes to the end of its long adventure, the palate is left with a very long finish.
Glorious chilli pepper and candle-wax trace layers its majestic ice-made aftertaste, still sparkling with salt and pepper tones.
A drop of water salts it a bit more and lessens the pepper, leaving a faint smoke aroma.
