Konpira Maru is the story of Alistair Reed and Sam Cook coming together from various parts of the wine industry to start their own creative outlet for making fascinating, minimum intervention wines.
Their first release, a mere 600 bottles, was in 2014.
Their success, particularly with wonderful Pet Nats has allowed them to expand their horizons.
They source fruit from growers in central Victoria and the South Burnett and Granite Belt regions in Queensland.
And from 2016 they have been organically farming their own Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris in Whitlands, high above the King Valley.
Arneis from a small plot in the Whitlands of northern Victoria, on the banks of the mighty Boggy Creek – Arneis being a lovely white grape of north Italian extraction.
Picked fresh and crunchy with its varietal citrus and almond characters, this has added complexity due to spending varying amounts of time on skins, before going into barrel.
Five different batches spending 1, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days respectively fermenting on their skins.
