Established in 1985, Cloudy Bay was one of the first five wine makers to venture into Marlborough.
At the time, it was almost an unimaginable place to set-up a vineyard.
But Cloudy Bay’s founder – David Hohnen – was convinced of its potential to produce great wine and invested in the best land of the region.
Since then, Marlborough has risen to become New Zealand’s leading wine region, as well as one of the finest winemaking locations in the world.
Attractive on the nose, with ripe notes of Meyer lemon and white nectarine.
Subtle oak is present, with aromas like the first spoon-crack of the top of a good crème brûlée: vanilla, a hint of darkness and plenty of promise.
The palate is taut and vibrant, with mouthwatering citrus framing a core of conference pear and white nectarine.
The deft oak complements the fruit concentration, creating structure and ensuring a balanced rather than overtly fruity character.
Saline-fresh on the long and beguiling finish.
There is plenty of intensity on the nose with aromas of white nectarine, red apple and grapefruit combined with a layer of nutmeg scented, savoury oak.
The touch of reduction is subtle, contributing a faint whiff of struck match.
On the palate there is a subtle biscuity, creamy layer that wraps around the fruit resulting in a silky texture.
Delicious now though has the potential to age well in bottle.
